Optical Communications Reservations inside clusters of all-optical core nodes achieve distributed burst aggregation and switching improving efficiency and loss

چکیده
Clustering neighbouring nodes of an all-optical core network into medium-sized rings controlled by a master node allows two-way reservation-based control to aggregate bursts destined for other clusters in a lossless way with tolerable delay. The densely packed bursts can then be sent over static or switched light paths and be received in the destination cluster ring without the delay of end-to-end reservations. This hybrid approach where two-way reservations are geographically limited inside clusters only avoids both the handicap of heavy loss of one-way Optical Burst Switching (OBS) and the intolerable delay and multiplexing gain of end-to-end reservations. In addition, the number of multi-port space-switching all-optical nodes is reduced delegating part of this function to the distributed control of the laser sources of the ring under the guidance of the medium access protocol. متن کاملA Photonic Container Switched OBS Architecture with Non- preemptive Centralized Scheduler for the Core Transport Network
We propose a new high-level OBS architecture based on photonic container switching to be deployed in the core network. Our architecture removes most of the complexities of the present day Optical Burst Switching (OBS) technology and makes possible an all-optical core network with zero packet loss guaranteeing equal QoS to all users. In the proposed architecture, the packets are actually packed ...
متن کاملAnalysis of a Dynamically Wavelength-Routed Optical Burst Switched Network Architecture
The concept of optical burst switching (OBS) aims to allow access to optical bandwidth in dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) networks at fractions of the optical line rate to improve bandwidth utilization efficiency. This paper studies an alternative network architecture combining OBS with dynamic wavelength allocation under fast circuit switching to provide a scalable optical archite...
متن کاملOptical Communications Efficient burst aggregation for QoS-aware slotted OBS systems
The burst aggregation strategy in Optical Burst Switching systems is a balancing act between delay to assemble the burst and efficiency in filling it. The longer the assembly time, the better the fill level. Slotted systems can simplify control and avoid very short and inefficient bursts but the slot assembly strategy becomes a critical issue particularly when service quality must be supported ...
متن کاملA new performability model for queueing and FDL-related burst loss in optical switching nodes
Optical packet and burst switching have been proposed for networks because of the increased demand for capacity to transport traffic generated by various applications at present and in future. In optical packet switching networks the payload and the header of a packet are conveyed in the same channel, while burst switching networks allow the separate transportation of the payload and the header...
